"Understanding means simplyfying."
(D. Strogow)
The Shockwave Riders are:
BURN +++ vocals, guitars, pandaemonium, bagpipe
SKYE +++ vocals, synthesizer, accordion, acoustic drums
HISTORY
We have quite a long musical past in common - from childhood on we
enchanted the neighbourhood with our famous glockenspiel-adaptations
of "mole of Kintyre". Nightly saxophone improvisations,
violin studies, clarinet and flute duos and more general studies on
"how to get sounds out of everything that can't run away"
followed.
A little later our roads parted. Skye studied Popular Music (piano
and vocals) at the Music University of Hamburg and played in a couple
of (metall-)bands.
Meanwhile Burn shouldered her guitar and went to Great Britain for
some years and later to Ireland, where she performed in a number of
folk formations.
Then, in 2001 we founded our band SHOCKWAVE RIDERS and swore each
other eternal high fidelity. Since then nothing could scare us anymore,
except maybe our government and the thought that our music might not
be played loud enough.
"The Music has to be played loud, so we don't hear the world
collapse"
(Common Knowledge)
MUSIC
Keyboards, guitar and the two immensely expressive voices create deeply
emotional music, that spirits the listener away into shimmering parallel
worlds between noisy walls of sound and folky elegance.
The SHOCKWAVE RIDERS sing of love and betrayal, of hope and desparation,
of the greed for money and fame, and of great deeds done silently,
where noone applauds.
And they sing of the yearning for a world afar, where all humans are
one.
Because songs are legends and we need them, so that the soul can live
on.
